1 1-2 One day he was teaching the people in the Temple, proclaiming the Message. The high priests, religion scholars, and leaders confronted him and demanded, “Show us your credentials. Who authorized you to speak and act like this?”
3-4 Jesus answered, “First, let me ask you a question: About the baptism of John—who authorized it, heaven or humans?”
5-7 They were on the spot, and knew it. They pulled back into a huddle and whispered, “If we say ‘heaven,’ he’ll ask us why we didn’t believe him; if we say ‘humans,’ the people will tear us limb from limb, convinced as they are that John was God’s prophet.” They agreed to concede that round to Jesus and said they didn’t know.
8 Jesus said, “Then neither will I answer your question.”
Jesus, being the Son of God, was also confronted by people about his authorization or credentials to speak and act for God's kingdom. But Jesus never receded because of people's opposition. He stood firm before the opponents and kept himself in following God.
My Master Jesus, You set yourself as an example for me to follow in serving God's kingdom. The key essence of discipleship is to strictly follow your will through carefully listening to your words and absolute surrender of my will in order to follow your will. Fear of people's disapproval, of making mistakes, of taking risks, of losing my control or other comfort, are the key reason for people not following your will. My dear friend Jesus, show me the Father's love that fully embraces me as I closely follow you by listening to the gentle voice of the Spirit that in Your love and Father's love all my fear are gone and your will can be done in me. I desire to see my life's being transformed and never be the same. I desire to see people that I serve be totally transformed as I follow your will and manifest your Kingdom's ministry by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
