18 Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
Apostle Paul charged his true spiritual son, Timothy, to keep with the prophecies that once had been told about him from other people of God. The prophecies were come from God through God's people to Timothy when he was still young. As Timothy was to shepherd God's church at Ephesus, he faced all kinds of difficulties that challenged his calling from God. Apostle Paul urged Timothy not to forget his calling from these prophecies and he must constantly recall these prophecies in order that he could fight this spiritual battle well. Paul also urged Timothy to hold on his sincere faith and good conscience before God, contrary to some people who could not finish well by rejecting their faith.
Dear Lord, You have called me through Your words that I know that I am only a pilgrim on earth with my final destiny in your heavenly dwelling; You have also spoken to me through Your people that You will surely keep all those things that I have entrusted to You; and I also recall the prophecy to me that I shall be renewed in my inner soul by Your Spirit before I can renew the spiritual conditions of Your church and servants. Continue to keep my sincere faith, pure conscience, and good heart before You as I recall my gracious calling from You.
