Holy Spirit is our source of holiness (12-15-2012)

December 15, 2012 - 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8

4:8

7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

What a wonderful calling we have from God that we are called to live a holy life - a life like the character of Jesus. We are not just saved from judgement but more than that we are called to be holy - a kind of destiny or purpose of life. Our calling is not so much the task-related as the character-related issue. This sanctification is also empowered by the Holy Spirit who is given by the very God to all believers alike. God promises Holy Spirit and then He calls us to be holy. Rejecting to live a holy life is to reject the very God who wills us to do.

My Spirit, thanks for dwelling in me. Don't allow me to take it for granted but rather live everyday with a life purpose - to live a  holy life like Jesus Christ as empowered and moved by the Holy Spirit.

  1. 1 Cor. 1.9 God is faithful, through whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
This fellowship or communion is the purpose of His calling and leading to His divine purpose.
Galatians 3.14 that upon the Gentiles might come the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Hence, God's calling leads us to the fellowship or communion of our Lord, through receiving the Spirit, we walk with God and to keep our relationship with God, we have to be holy or sanctified (that is, pure) because Leviticus 11.44 For I am Jehovah your God: sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am holy.....

  2. And, 1 John 1.3-4 that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you also, that ye also may have fellowship with us : yea, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ : and these things we write, that our joy may be made full.

  3. But, how can a mortal and sinful being walk with the Glorious God? Or, in what way should we walk with Him? Thank God, through born of the Spirit (John 3.6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit).
It is not in our mind - for our mind means the ability of understanding. It is not by our heart - our heart is for emotional feelings. It goes deeper - by our spirit (Romans 7.6 so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter).
Now, the Lord is the life-giving spirit (1 Cor 15.45 the last Adam [is] for a life-giving spirit)that by the Spirit of life, we WERE MADE free from the law of sin and of death (Romans 8.2).
So, where the Spirit of the Lord is, [there] is liberty (2 Cor 3.17). The Lord`s Spirit, that is, the life-giving spirit, the spirit of life and our spirit joined as one spirit (1 Cor 6.17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit). But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4.23-24)
