4 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. (1 Thess. 4-6)
This is the most important good news that we are chosen by God in his gospel that we are saved and become children of God. But also importantly is that the Holy Spirit has worked in our lives with power through God's words that we are convicted and produced sincere faith in our hearts. The works of Spirit are powerful in believers' lives and this power is manifested with joy in the midst of suffering. Power may not be strictly related to supernatural events or miracles, but the convictions in a sinner's life or the great joy possessed by a believer who is in sufferings is already a
demonstration of the reality of the Spirit.
My dear Spirit, I also deeply desire for this kind of experience. Though I have become a believer for more than 30 years, let me continually experience the power of You through experiencing your words and also having the joy from You in all kinds of life circumstances. As Paul mentions, becoming like Christ and life being transformed everyday. Yes, everyday is a new day as I now just see the dawning of sunshine that falls upon my window. My Lord is Good!
